“Photos and More” Research Teams Form February 27, 2:30 p.m. in Fondren 412

Come talk with Rice Centennial Historian Melissa Kean, Ph.D. and others about possible projects in the Rice Archives. With Fondren 412 as our home base for project work, ARRUF teams can track down identities in photos and the mysterious devices lurking from famous research projects. Make unidentified memorabilia memorable once more. Dr. Kean will endeavor to devise projects that suit our experience and history at Rice. Groups may work on projects that can be stored in Fondren 412 or under appropriate conditions elsewhere. Come discuss what senior detectives could pursue.

ARRUF Woman Pioneer Whose Legacy Keeps on Growing

While Sandy Havens, long-time director of the Rice Players, and wife Helen Havens served as masters (now the title is Magister) at Jones College, Helen became the first woman Episcopal priest in Texas. That was 41 years ago. Last year at the Diocese of Texas Annual Council Meeting (the annual business meeting), delegates from the church she served with distinction, St. Stephens, wore T-shirts with Helen’s picture and posed with Helen’s cut-out to celebrate the 40th anniversary of her ordination. Sandy and Helen now reside near the campus.
