Marcia Citron, memoir writer, and June Ferrill, the group's leader.
DATE CHANGE!! Sept. 27th
After adjusting her travel schedule for Imelda, June Ferrill will return from Santa Fe to lead the opening meeting of the 2019-2020 Memoir Writers Group. New members are VERY welcome. June suggests the following creative effort, if you have time:
September holds the record for the most hurricanes and tropical storms in Texas and August is second. Most of us have been through more than one such storms while living in Houston. We often vividly remember them--Rita, September 23, 2005; Ike in Galveston, September 13, 2008; Alicia, August , 1983; and Harvey, August , 2017. The outlier was Allison coming in June 5, 2001. Jane Chance writes in "Lucky" about coming back to her Galveston home after Ike. I'm inspired to write about my experience with Rita. I know you all have stories about these disasters, or other disasters. I invite you to write an anecdote about a disaster for our upcoming meeting September 27th. Bring a personal "Disaster--Before, During, After," story to share with us. Write it down, if possible, or at least bring it to tell.
Box lunches will be provided so that we can continue our conversations over lunch. Send dietary preferences to firstname.lastname@example.org by Wednesday, Sept. 25th, please.
